Taking Shape
Taking Shape brings together a group of artists concerned with geometry; manipulating the properties and relations of points, lines, surfaces and figures in space to captivating effect.
Kate Banazi's works celebrate movement with matrixes of interlocking shapes which seem on the verge of collapse or explosion while Annie Sandano's playful geometric forms float in freeform arrangements.
Sarah Williams' decisive swathes of paint define planes and angles that might describe impossible spaces and Tevita (Hyundo) Sung breaks landscapes down into a sort of plastic geometry; with forms rendered simply and graphically in nodes and patches. Meanwhile, Janna van Hasselt explores camouflage and mimicry through the blending and masking of forms with colour and pattern, almost to the point of excess where both harmony and disparity are present in the artwork.
